Congrats to the TAVR team! The unit performed its first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure at McLaren Greater Lansing on July 26. TAVR has been described as game changing for those suffering from aortic stenosis, a condition in which the heart's aortic valve thickens and calcifies, preventing it from opening and closing properly. The procedure is much less invasive than a conventional one that would involve opening up the chest. TAVR patients can often be sent home the day after their procedure, compared to five to seven days for someone who has undergone traditional surgery.
Thanks to a grant from McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation the hospital was able to purchase the equipment needed to begin performing these procedures here in Greater Lansing! Thank you Foundation donors for helping the hospital provide the best patient care for our friends and neighbors.
